Over 20 years ago, famed comedy writer and director Judd Apatow had a dream to have a script he wrote for The Simpsons become reality. Now, his dream has finally come true.

In a recent interview with Enterainment Weekly, Apatow, the man behind hits like 40-year-old Virgin, Knocked Up and Girls, shared about writing the episode. "I sent them all around town and I did not get a job from anybody," he said. "I got a meeting at Get a Life and didn't get a job there either. But I heard that they liked it at The Simpsons."

Apatow got a gig writing for The Ben Stiller Show and that ended up getting the attention of Simpsons producers Al Jean and Mike Reiss. They hired him to work on the cartoon The Critic, but his episode never came to fruition. Years later, Jean heard Apatow mention the episode her wrote for The Simpsons in an interview, and he decided to give it another look.

"The reason I brought up The Simpsons episode is because I realized while doing this interview that everything I had ever written was the premise of the first thing I had ever written," Apatow told EW. "All of my stories are about people trying hard not to grow up."

The episode's plot includes the Simpson family going to see a hypnotist at a live performance only the hypnotist dies from a heart attack before the demonstration is complete. Apatow joked with EW that he could end up being the voice for the hypnotist. But when the hypnotist dies, Homer is left in a state in which he believes he is 10-years-old.

"It's about Bart and Homer becoming best friends because they're the same age, and then Homer doesn't want to be revived because he'd rather be 10 than have adult responsibility," Apatow said. "I wrote it in what I thought was the style of The Simpsons after only six episodes had aired."

The episode is coming together with the help of the current writers, and Apatow says their additions and changes so far are hilarious. Before the episode is ready for next season, Apatow will provide his voice to The Simpsons this Sunday with his friends Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Channing Tatum and his wife, Leslie Mann.
