Emma Stone once again steps into the shoes of Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's first girlfriend, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But unlike the original Sam Raimi film trilogy in which Mary Jane Watson pretty much just got herself kidnapped repeatedly and Spider-Man went to save her, the Amazing sequel will feature a capable, smart and strong female lead.

Total Film asked Stone how many times Spider-Man saves her in the sequel film, and she responded with the following tidbit about her character:

"Not many. I can think of one important instance. She saves him more than he saves her. She's incredibly helpful to Spider-Man...He's the muscle, she's the brains."

With those few words, Stone painted a completely different picture of Gwen in comparison to Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane in the original three films, in which she served the typical "damsel in distress" role. Gwen was a bit spunkier in The Amazing Spider-Man, but she too played the role of the girl who needs to be rescued. But the first film had to establish the new universe and set up the future installments, so that's understandable.

But does Gwen actually get involved in any heavy action in the sequel?

"I don't get to do too many crazy stunts," Stone said. "She gets herself in the middle of stuff, that's for sure! I do get webbed to a car. There's sh*t like that."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters in the United States on May 2, 2014 and in the United Kingdom on April 18, 2014.
