HBO's hit fantasy series Game of Thrones returns to television with its fourth season on March 15, but this month we have some pretty interesting news for the show. There is a village in the United Kingdom that is about to have its name changed from Kings Langley to Kings Landing in honor of the capital of the seven kingdoms in the Song of Ice and Fire book series. This might be a great marketing plan to help promote season three's DVD/Blu-Ray release, but we think its pretty great nonetheless!
The Watford Observer reports:
An executive producer of the hit TV show heard Kings Langley read out as a stop while waiting for an Inter-City train at Euston and contacted Dacorum Borough Council to organise the name change. Kings Landing is the main city in the TV show and Susan Lea at Dacorum Borough Council said she hopes businesses and restaurants will get involved during the week beginning February 17.
So we weren't just saying it sounded like a marketing scheme. It actually is. The name change will only last a week and hopes are for mutual benefits for the DVD release as well as village tourism. According to a new report, both sides could use the help.
Season three of Game of Thrones was reportedly the top pirated television series of 2013. This of course means that the DVD release could be viewed as pointless to those who know how to download episodes illegally. Hopefully Kings Langley doesn't start issuing the same kind of punishment as Kings Landing for these crimes!
