Rob Van Dam was last seen in WWE on the Battleground pay-per-view when he lost to then-World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio in a Hardcore match. But the high-flyer, who at the moment is on hiatus from the company, could return soon according to a new report.

PWInsider.com reports that RVD is likely to return to the company at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 26. If that is the case, then Van Dam would likely work through WrestleMania 30 because his contract permits him to work in 90-day chunks and then take time off; however, his status with the company after The Showcase of the Immortals is unclear. It's also unknown if RVD would be a "surprise" entrant in the Rumble match, though this seems likely given that the company has not mentioned his possible return at all thus far.

Stone Cold Steve Austin Backstage News

Stone Cold appeared on Chris Jericho's "Talk is Jericho" podcast recently and one of the topics of conversation was Austin's infamous heel turn at WrestleMania 17 when he sided with Vince McMahon, his longtime nemesis, to beat The Rock for the WWE Championship in the main event. In the interview, Austin revealed that McMahon did not have anything big planned for the main event, so Stone Cold came up with the idea of the heel turn because he thought it would draw money if a hot babyface turned heel. Unfortunately, as he admitted, it was the wrong time to make that move because people did not want to hate him, so the idea failed.

Austin also admitted that he handled his leaving WWE "like a total ass." The creative plan was for Brock Lesnar to beat him, and Austin would not do it because he felt that it would be a pay-per-view quality match that the company was just giving away without any buildup at all.

Stone Cold admitted in the interview with Jericho that he "should have showed up like a man" and "come up with a solution" instead of just walking away.
