Point Break is the next movie on the remake list for Hollywood and it looks like Scottish actor Gerard Butler is in talks to star as Bodhi, the character originally played by Patrick Swayze. There's no news on who will play Keanu Reeves' Johnny Utah character, but having a big name like Butler close to signing could attract some great talent. Ericson Core (The Fast & the Furious and Daredevil cinematographer) is set to direct.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

Kurt Wimmer wrote the screenplay for the new film, which is set in the international world of extreme sports as opposed to the Southern California surf scene of the original. The plot of an FBI agent infiltrating a crime ring as well as the names of the principal characters remain the same. Butler will play Bodhi, an expert extreme-sports athlete who seeks nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves. He saves Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent, and brings him into the fold of international criminals. The part of Utah is not cast yet.

As we reported above, this is a remake of Point Break and not the sequel. Last month, Keanu Reeves spoke about possible sequels to his earlier works like Bill and Ted and Point Break was brought up. Considering his co-star, Patrick Swayze, recently died, Reeves shot down any rumors of the project.

"Absolutely not," Reeves said of the Point Break sequel. "It's not my place... If they can find a way to do it that works out good, then God bless them."
