American Horror Story: Coven returned from hiatus on Wednesday night with an episode that featured some disturbing revelations. Fans learned that Marie Laveau's (Angela Bassett) secret to immortality was a deal with Papa Legba (who's basically a voodoo version of Satan) in which she must sacrifice an innocent soul to him every year, and the first offering was her baby.

Fiona later tried to make the same deal but Papa Legba (Lance Reddick) told her that she had no soul. Madison (Emma Roberts) also made a push to be the new Supreme by burying Misty Day (Lily Rabe) alive, and Nan (Jamie Brewer) also met her end after she killed Joan (Patti LuPone). And let's not forget Stevie Nicks' appearance.

In an interview with EW.com, series creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Nan and Joan are both gone for good, and that the show will "revisit [Misty's] torment as the clock is ticking."

Murphy later discussed if the truce between Fiona and Marie would hold together:

"Well we have been building towards a truce and I think the viewers want there to be. If you're watching the show, you're very invested in these two powerful women joining forces because then they would be unstoppable. But Fiona is not to be trusted and neither is Marie. Is it real? Do they have an agenda and what is that agenda? We explore that in the next couple of episodes."

A notable absence from the episode was Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates), but Murphy assured fans that her return in next week's episode would be worth the wait:

"Next week is Kathy's heaviest episode that we've ever done with her on the show. It's a great episode for her. It's really upsetting because a lot of it is about the origin story for Madame LaLaurie. We read a lot about her and the question I always had is, 'How does this woman who's a cultured socialite and someone educated become such a brutal serial killer monster? Where does that come from? What was the first moment where she did what she did?' We see that, we explore that. It's a great Kathy Bates gets her revenge moment."

American Horror Story: Coven airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
