Miami Heat Dwyane Wade cheating scandal worries? Gabrielle Union regrets divorcing NFL ex-husband Chris Howard?

Gabrielle Union opens up about her first marriage in light of Miami Heat fiancé's "break baby" scandal. Prior to dating the NBA star, Union was married to former football player Chris Howard in 2001 and later divorced him in 2005. The Being Mary Jane star admitted that she rushed her marriage with her ex-husband due to the pressures of aging, friends, and family.

Union told TV Guide, "When I was in my 20s, I was all about getting the ring. Cut to: I'm divorced." She continued, "Some of us put more work into choosing the right therapist than choosing the right guy," she said. "Nobody talks about the work - the really hard work - that goes into marriage."

In June 2005, while promoting The Honeymooners, Union admitted that her marriage was struggling, "He never hangs his clothes up. I'm the kind of person whose clothes are all hung up and color-coordinated, to the point where my whites don't touch my creams. And he thinks that he can just stick things in the dishwasher - apparently the dishwasher is magic. Oh, and he leaves the toilet seat up. I guess all the things you have to get used to about living with a guy."

Today, Union acknowledges that she criticized the little things that probably ended her first marriage, "I spent so much of my marriage upset. Things like the toilet seat being up or down shouldn't define your day. You put so much on every little thing," she revealed. "You look at your parents like they were infallible and perfect and you realize now that they made a lot of mistakes and they're just people. I'm giving the men in my life the same consideration. They're just human," she told TV Guide.
