Shia LaBeouf's really bad month took a turn for the bizarre on Friday when the actor abruptly announced on Twitter his intention to retire "from all public life."

LaBeouf, most famous for his work in Michael Bay's Transformers film series and on the Disney Channel show Even Stevens, wrote early Friday morning, "In light of recent attacks against my artistic integrity, I am retiring from all public life." He later wrote, "My love goes out to those who have supported me" and "#stopcreating."

The actor's rough month began when reports emerged that he had stolen massive amounts of material from a Daniel Clowes comic for his short film Howard Cantour. At first, LaBeouf backed up and admitted that he had made a mistake, but then he issued a series of strange and often plagiarized apologies that ended with a an apology in skywriting to Clowes.

It's unclear if this entire ordeal is a type of performance art of if LaBeouf is just playing an elaborate hoax on everyone, but the situation has seemingly spiraled out of control to the point where the actor felt the need to just recede into the shadows. It's also unclear to what extent LaBeouf plans to retire. "All public life" could mean no more movies, TV shows or public appearances, or it could even mean that he doesn't even go to the supermarket.

What do you think, fans? Is LaBeouf really retiring, or is something else going on here? Let us know in the comments below.
