Fans of the late R&B singer Aaliyah will have to hold off just a little while longer for new music. Word on the street is Aaliyah's mother has shut down production for the Drake x Aaliyah collaboration album.

While some fans were anxious and excited to hear new music from Aaliyah with a new flair from Drake, not everyone was supportive of the project. In fact, the project received a lot of negative feedback starting with the 2012 track "Enough Said."

The album was to be produced by Drake's frequent collaborator Noah "40″ Shebib with no help from Timbaland, who was responsible for producing many of Aaliyah's hits. That didn't sit well with fans either.

It seems this project was doomed from the beginning but it wasn't canned until Aaliyah's mother told 40 to pump the brakes.

Here's what 40 told Vibe Magazine:

"The world reacting to Drake's involvement so negatively, I just wanted nothing to do with it. That was a very sad experience for me. I was naïve to the politics surrounding Aaliyah's legacy and a bit ignorant to Timbaland's relationship and everybody else involved and how they'd feel. Tim said to me "Don't stop, make the album." I think that was Tim taking the position of, "I'm not going to stop you. If you're not going to do it, that's your decision." But ultimately, I wasn't comfortable and didn't like the stigma. We released ["Enough Said"], but I was seven songs deep. [Aaliyah's] mother saying "I don't want this out" was enough for me. I walked away very quickly."
