Metal fans are nothing if not pedantic and the folks behind the Simpsons learned that the hard way when they erroneously referred to Judas Priest as "death metal."

The band had appeared in the long-running cartoon's January 5 episode where they turned their hit song "Breaking The Law" on its head. After Homer is accused of piracy and hides out in a Swedish embassy, Priest performed outside the complex barking "Respecting the law/copyright law!"

"There's only one surefire way to get fugitives out of a foreign building," an FBI agent tracking the titular family said. "Blasting death metal!"

Of course, Priest are far removed from the growling, atonal sound pioneered by Florida band Death (comments section is below), and metalheads let the show have it. This led the show to apologize with the opening credit chalkboard gag above.

Bart was forced to write out "Judas Priest is not 'Death Metal'."
