A funny thing has been happening with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The movie releases on May 2 in U.S. theaters, and Sony has certainly been hyping it to a great degree. But fans seem to have already looked past it into future installments, particularly the Venom and Sinister Six movies that are coming down the pipe in a few years.

So it's no surprise that when Roberto Orci, the writer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, spoke to IGN, the topics of Venom and the Sinister Six came up in the conversation. Firstly, Orci had this to say when asked if The Amazing Spider-Man 4, which is a bit of a question mark in fans' minds, is really just a placeholder for Venom or the Sinister Six:

"There were three superheroes I loved when I was a kid: Superman, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man. I think it's such a popular character, and when I see my friend's kids, I remember why somehow, it sinks into kid's brains. So no, I think with Spider-Man 4, the intention is for it to be 'Spider-Man.'"

The site then asked how Orci and the rest of the writers plan to craft a Sinister Six movie, which is so heavy on villains. The writer responded that audiences are "ready to have things shaken up" because they have seen the good guy stories and can predict the endings of most films. So Sinister Six could take a cue from the great television antiheroes of the past decade:

"That's the discussion we're having right now; how exactly do you do that, and how do you do it without betraying the audience and making them all mean? Drew Goddard [Cabin Fever] is going to be writing that one, so it's kind of his problem. [Laughs] I'm kidding. We're all working on each other's stuff. So we want to be true to it, but there are some antiheroes in this day and age. There's been examples of that even on TV -- Vic Mackey on The Shield, one of the great antiheroes of all time. There are ways to milk that story. Audiences have seen everything. They've seen all the good guys who never do anything wrong. Is there a story in seeing the other side? That's the challenge, and that's the fun. I'm not sure how we're going to do that yet."
