The game between the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames is never a friendly affair but still, the line brawl that started Sunday night's game is a bit ridiculous. Two seconds into the game all 10 players were involved in fights, which resulted in 142 minutes of penalties being dished out.

Both lines went to the penalty box in their entirety with 19:58 on the clock. Let that sink in.

Calgary sent out a line of goons, leaving Vancouver coach John Tortorella no choice but to send out his own heavy-hitters. Unfortunately one of Canucks was Kellan Lain, a rookie making his first start in the NHL in front of family members who had flown out to the game. Two sends later, he was tossed.

"I see the starting lineup and I know the guy across the bench. I can't put our players at risk that way. I'm not proud of it. I've apologized to the players involved. My biggest mistake was putting Lain in the starting lineup," Tortella said, according to CKNW reporter Matt Lee. "I thought my players responded tremendously. I don't want that in the game, but I have to protect my players too."

In case you are curious, CBS has the game sheet.

Tortella attempted to charge into the Flames locker room to voice his displeasure.

Obviously, with a guard consisting of pissed-off hockey players blocking his entrance, he did not succeed.
