This morning at the Sundance Film Festival, Fifty Shades of Grey producer Michael De Luca shared some details on the highly-anticipated film. Deadline reports De Luca saying: "We're very conscious of not making anything gratuitous or exploitive while being faithful to the stories of the book and to the fans of the book."

This refers to E.L. James' erotic novel which took the pop culture world by storm after its re-release in April 2012. Focus Features and Universal Pictures plans a film adaptation for February 2015, starring Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as the young, innocent Anastasia Steele. The fictional relationship made the BDSM world come across as more mainstream.

De Luca continued with: "We're going to give them what they expect, which is an intense and erotic love story..."Obviously the film can't be as explicit as the book." To have the MPAA rating as R as opposed to NC-17, the film would have to leave out nude scenes that include sex with a borderline violent nature.

He went on to say: "A picture is worth a 1000 words. So to be erotic onscreen means I think an image is going to have way more power than reading the words on a page."

The producer is reportedly becoming president of Production for Columbia Pictures this March. He had plenty of insight on the popular film: "Not to sound corny, but it is, at its heart, a young love story. I think those things always work...No matter what you think about the book, those things are in that story and they are very cinematic."

The film is set to come out on the day before Valentine's Day, next year. De Luca said: "I think people love a good love story and the these two characters endeared themselves to 90 million readers so it's hard to say that it didn't connect on a deeper level than just its more sensationalist aspects, but it was the love story that did it for me."

He had additional comments at the second annual PGA Breakfast, noting that author E.L. James has been very involved on set. The filming in Vancouver with director Sam Taylor-Johnson is very laidback, according to De Luca.

Too long to wait till next year? MStars will have more movie details as they unfold.
