Preview our top 5 most anticipated new TV pilot episodes from Tina Fey, Vince Gilligan and more premiering in 2014!

With every new year there comes a plethora of new television shows trying to make it onto some network and into a season. In order to do this, a pilot must be ordered for a pitched show and, from there, the process can either move forward into a series or get canned before really get off the ground. This year, a new list of pilots has been ordered and some great names are attached to them including Tina Fey, John Mulaney, and Vince Gilligan. Here is our short list of our most anticipated pilot episodes coming in 2014!

Mulaney is a new show that has already been ordered to series by Fox, but was at one point dropped by NBC before so there's a bit of confusion as to what one network saw that another didn't. But this "semiautobiographical," coming of age comedy centers around a struggling comedian and the people around him that influence his routines and life. The cast includes John Mulaney, Martin Short, SNL cast member Nasim Perdrad and a number of other familiar faces.

Vince Gilligan garnered a lifetime of critical acclaim for being the head writer on AMC's Breaking Bad, so when he decided to executive produce another show, we started getting excited. Battle Creek center on two detectives, partnered together despite having very dissimilar worldviews. The logline for this new show asks the question: "Is cynicism, guile and deception enough to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, Mich., in the face of a complete lack of resources; or is the exact opposite true -- it takes naivete, trust and a boatload of resources?" So, count us in!

Gotham is a new show that takes on the origin story idea but really focuses on the setting rather than the main character of the series. The series, of course, is Batman, but this new show will mainly deal with life before the Dark Knight, and how a young Jim Gordon dealt with the mean streets of Gotham.

Another superhero series with a bit of an origin story aspect to it will be the Arrow spinoff series Flash. This new series will follow the DC Comics character, also known as Barry Allen, as he deals with his own villains while learning to use his super speed. Glee's Grant Gustin stars in the leading role.

Tina Fey has teamed up with The Office star Ellie Kemper for a new series, starring the latter as a woman who is just trying to start a new life in New York City. Oh, and she used to be in a doomsday cult before moving to the big city, so there's also THAT. As of now, this show is untitled.
