Fans of How I Met Your Mother are approaching the series finale on March 31 with a mixture of excitement, anticipation and sadness, as the epic love story of Ted Mosby will come to an end after nine seasons. But when the Season 9 finale does hit the airwaves, we all better have a box of tissues available.

Star Cobie Smulders, who plays Robin Scherbatsky, sat down with IGN and revealed that she knows "the whole thing" with regard to the series finale. Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas said recently that they have not written the final script just yet, but they know the last few minutes.

Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Barney Stinson, asked for finale details at the show's Christmas party and got answers. Smulders apparently did something similar, and her reaction was powerful to say the least:

"You know what's so funny is, like, a week before Neil did that, I went up to Craig after the table read, and I was like, 'What is the deal with this?' He was like, 'Well, do you want me to tell you?' I was like, 'Yeah! I think I want to know,' and he just laid it out. I immediately started weeping and had to leave. Like, I had to leave. I said that, I was like, 'Craig, I have to leave right now. Thank you,' and I just walked away."

The site then asked if she thinks it's an effective ending, and she replied, "I do. You know, I feel it's very beautiful and very true to life. That's what I feel about it."

HIMYM has typically knocked its big, emotional moments out of the park (Marshall's dad's death, Barney's proposal to Robin, etc.), so it's not too surprising that the series finale would deliver the same type of impact.

What do you think, HIMYM fans? What could have made Cobie Smulders cry? Let us know in the comments below.
