The Super Bowl, for some, has become as famous for its commercials as it has for the actual game on the field (if not more so). The battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy has also turned into a battle for airtime in which companies pay exorbitant fees just for 30 seconds or more in the public consciousness. When the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks meet in Super Bowl 48 on Feb. 2, fans could get a first look at Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trailer.

The first footage from Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction film will debut during the Super Bowl, and other high-profile films such as Robocop and The Expendables 3 could also appear during the broadcast. But Guardians of the Galaxy could find its way into the block of commercials if a recent report is true.

Screen Crush reports that Disney is "actively trying" to secure a third commercial spot during the Super Bowl, and all signs point toward Guardians of the Galaxy. The company has already locked down spots for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Need for Speed, the latter of which is a Dreamworks movie that Disney is releasing.

Guardians of the Galaxy is likely to be the riskiest film Marvel has attempted in its shared movie universe. The cast of characters features a talking tree and a talking raccoon that fires guns, and the journey will take place almost entirely in outer space. Plus, the characters just aren't as well known among common fans as Iron Man or even Thor.

But debuting the trailer during one of the most-watched broadcasts of the entire year could be a way to capture people's attention and bring more eyes into theaters.

What do you think, fans? Are you expecting to see the trailer during the Super Bowl? Would it help ticket sales for the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
