Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have already won 4 awards in the pre-telecast and early minutes of the 56th annual Grammy awards. The duo won Best New Artist over Kendrick Lamar, Kasey Musgraves, Ed Sheeran and James Blake. I'm not sure what metric qualifies Blake as a new artist, but there you have it.

"First and foremost, I want to thank our fans, the people that got on us on this stage," Macklemore, said said in accepting, according to LA Times. "Before there was any media, before there was any buzz ... it spread organically through them, and without them, there would be no us."

In addition, the duo won best rap performance and rap song (both for "Thrift Shop") and best rap album (The Heist).

Of course, this has a lot of hip-hop heads steaming.

The anger centers largely around the fact that, for all his pop sensibility and sales, Macklemore is not a very gifted rapper. Coupled with a long-standing unspoken rejection of rap by the Academy, the decision to pick a white pop rapper over K-Dot is bound to get folks upset.s

Of course, the Grammys could right themselves and award Kendrick Album Of The Year for good kid, m.A.A.d city. Why you laughin'?
