Director Marc Webb is continuing to hype The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as it inches closer to its May 2 release date. The film will have an expanded cast of characters, and Webb promises a more "operatic" movie than the initial installment.

Webb told Total Film that he and his crew would be "pushing the levels of effects, the level of action and the emotional capacity of this kid. It's an aggressive step forward...We throw around the term 'operatic' because of the spectacle and the theater involved, which is pretty epic."

That's not a surprising statement considering that the film features three villains: Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino and (presumably) Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 was brought down by the inclusion of so many villains, including the fact that Venom, a fan favorite, was shoehorned into the film in the eyes of some fans. Webb may have learned from those mistakes, but only time will tell.

He also addressed the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy and pointed out that they will have their own moments among all the "epic" events happening around them.

"There are enormous sets and great set pieces," Webb said. "But really it's a very intimate song. This relationship between Peter and Gwen is very delicate and beautiful."

Of course, some fans believe that Gwen will meet her end in this film, and that belief only intensified when official photos from the movie came out of Gwen in her outfit from her famous death scene in the Spider-Man comics.
