I'm going to put forth an opinion that will be unpopular among two groups of people: this cover of Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is the absolute greatest thing that CHVRCHES has ever done.

We all know that "The Mother We Share" was great on first listen. But Lauren Mayberry and Co. stuck it on an album that had too few distinguished moments otherwise. The glistening synth-pop of their leadoff single lost a bit of its shimmer when you realized that The Bones Of What You Believe was nothing but lesser versions of that same track for 48 minutes.

This, though. This cover constrains CHVRCHES and keeps them from wandering off, blinded by the brightness of their own compositions. They made a perfect bit of dance-pop and all it took was someone else to make it for them.

The only downside to this track is that so few people will hear it. You see, it comes from the soundtrack to Vampire Academy (aka Hollywood's third or fourth reminder that crowds didn't come to see "teen paranormal drama", they came to see Twilight).

What do you think of "Bela Lugosi's Dead"?

Sound off in the comments.
