News broke recently that Bill Paxton would join the cast of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a guest-starring role, but details on his character were scarce until now.

Luckily, Brett Dalton, who plays Agent Grant Ward on the show, released some information to the "Mega Buzz" column at TV Guide:

"John Garrett is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who, like Coulson, was trained by Nick Fury. But he also has history with Ward, whom he actually trained before Ward joined Coulson's team. 'Coulson makes decisions based on instincts and intuition,' Brett Dalton says. 'Ward is more about risk assessment and tactical skills. That's all that he's known until joining Coulson's team. [Garrett is] the guy who trained Ward, so he's a reflection of him in a lot of ways.'"

Based on those descriptions, we could be in for some conflict between Garrett and Coulson when the two cross paths.

In other Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. news, Marvel has announced that J. August Richards, who played the superpowered Mike Peterson for two episodes, will transform into the character in the Feb. 4 episode of the series.

Many fans expected Richards to play Luke Cage based on the initial footage of him in the pilot, but the show is going a different way. Plus, Luke Cage will be the star of his own Netflix series in 2015.

"We have been waiting all season for this moment where we can reveal that Mike Peterson's story arc is an origin story," executive producer Jeffrey Bell said in a statement. "We're thrilled to have J. August Richards playing Deathlok and to have our audience enjoy this favorite Marvel character on the show."

"If you would have asked when I was nine-years old what I wanted to be, I would have said a super hero and I'm so excited to be one now as an adult on TV!" Richards said. "It's a dream come true."
