New 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' plot details revealed, but is the film setting up for disappointment?

After yesterday's fountain of information on the Comic Book Resources forum about Bryan Singer's upcoming superhero film X-Men: Days of Future Past, a more reputable source has come forward with more plot details.

Drew McWeeny, a film critic and screen writer who now runs the site HitFix and who used to be known as "Moriarty," has posted analyses for each of the 25 X-Men covers on Empire magazine, and he unveiled some plot details in the process. Firstly, he wrote an introduction about the film and noted that he read an early draft of the script. His outlook for the film, unfortunately, is not so bright:

"Film after film, it feels like this series just barely works. They've never hit that stride where the studio just finally relaxes and stands back and gives the filmmakers the support to try something really grand. This should be that movie, and while I think there's a lot of it that works on the page, I'm also well aware that I read an early draft and that I've had some big problems with the last few films Singer has made. I'm not sure I would have chased him down and had him back for this movie, but Fox seems to be gambling that Singer will be able to bridge the new films and the old films with one of the most complicated stories anyone's ever tried to tell in one of these superhero movies."

Bear in mind, of course, that this is just one man's opinion, but he does have some knowledge of the film that the general public does not. He then gets into the breakdown of each character and drops a few interesting tidbits, including:

-       Rogue (Anna Paquin) had a "huge pivotal role" in the script he read, but she has been cut from the movie.

-       Blink (Bingbing Fan) "plays a key role in the action in the opening sequence of the film).

-       Young Raven/Mystqiue (Jennifer Lawrence) is  "integral to everything that happens" in the movie.

-       Young Beast (Nicholas Hoult) is "the one person who hasn't given up on Charles Xavier, watching over him even when Charles doesn't feel like watching over himself anymore."
