Channing Tatum has expressed in the past that he is a fan of the X-Men, specifically Gambit, the Cajun mutant who throws cards that explode like bombs when he lights them up with energy. And if he has ever dreamed of playing the character, then his wish might soon come true.

Empire Magazine spoke with X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner for its new X-Men: Days of Future Past issue (which has a whopping 25 different covers) and she revealed that she is pushing for a solo Gambit movie with Tatum in the lead role.

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum," she said. "That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

During his press tour for White House Down last year, Tatum revealed that he would love to portray Gambit on the big screen.

"I would like to play Gambit. Gambit's my favorite," he said. "I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real."

Fans may remember that Taylor Kitsch actually took on the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but his portrayal (and that movie in general) garnered plenty of criticism from moviegoers. But Tatum, for one, liked the performance.

"No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, 'cause I actually like his Gambit, but I've always lived around Cajun people," Tatum said. "Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He's a thief. He kind of rode the line."

What do you think, X-Men fans? Would Tatum be the right man for the part? Let us know in the comments below.
