A new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 aired during Super Bowl 48 on Sunday and showed off some brand new footage of the film to make it clear that Spider-Man's life would not be all sunshine and rainbows. The trailer also revealed some footage that could prove a popular fan theory correct.

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is enjoying his life as Spider-Man when the second film begins, particularly thanks to his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. But the new Super Bowl trailer offered some more glimpses at Jamie Foxx as Electro and showed that Spidey's heroism has consequences, especially for the web head, and Spider-Man will soon have to deal with those consequences.

The popular fan theory is that Gwen will die in the film to echo her iconic death scene from the Spider-Man comics. These comments from Emma Stone last week only reinforced that idea:

"Basically they're going to see the continuation of the Spider-Man story, which is the hero's journey, and he's up against a whole new squadron of villains and he's struggling with promises he's made in the last movie and the consequences of making those and what it's like to be in love with somebody who you promised to not see anymore. I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen's story as closely to the comic as possible."

In this new trailer, Spider-Man saves Gwen as they fall through the glass roof of a building, but the cliffhanger at the end of the scene makes one wonder if Gwen really survived the trip.

What do you think? Did you enjoy the trailer? Do you think Gwen will die in the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
