One Direction's Zayn Malik this week has been named an ambassador for the British Asian Trust. Like many other celebrities trying to make a difference, Malik is lending his name and voice to help raise awareness and funds to aid disadvantaged people in countries like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

"We are delighted to welcome Zayn Malik to The British Asian Trust family; he is a young man with immense talent and a dedicated following," Hitan Mehta, the Executive Director of the British Asian Trust, said. "Zayn joins a dedicated group of celebrity supporters, who have worked alongside us helping to improve the lives of disadvantaged people living in South Asia."

Malik is welcomed on the Trust's official website. Here is an excerpt:

The British Asian Trust is delighted to welcome Zayn Malik, a member of the chart topping and BRIT Award winning group One Direction, as an official Ambassador for the Trust ... The Trust provides funding to support high impact charities within the areas of education, health and livelihoods in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The dinner will raise funds for a number of projects that the Trust supports in these countries. Since the Trust was established, it has touched the lives of 1 million disadvantaged people, over the next five years it aims to reach a further 2 million people.

Zayn joins the likes of fellow celebrity ambassadors including Naughty Boy, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Dev Patel, Mishal Husain, Laila Rouass, Preeya Kalidas, Nitin Ganatra and Nina Wadia.
