2013 was a surprising year in television, mainly because some of the best shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards weren't technically on TV. These Netflix original series broke new ground in the medium and opened the door for plenty more shows to take over in 2014. Let's take a look at the new show that the online streaming service has to off this year!

Originally set to air on Starz but then dropped by the TV network, Marco Polo is one of the more exciting new shows from Netflix thanks to the story it aims to tell. Due for release in the latter part of the year, this nine-episode series will focus on the infamous world traveler, Polo, and his days in the court of Kublai Khan in 13th century China. The series will be filmed in Malaysia, too!

Narcos is a new series that seems to have lost some steam over the last few months, but we shouldn't consider it canceled just yet. With no reports of the series being scrapped, this might air later in 2014. If we do see it, the series will chronicle the life of Pablo Escobar leading up to his death. Keep your fingers crossed for this one

Perhaps the most anticipated series from Netflix has to be the recently announced Kyle Chandler drama. The Friday Night Lights star is returning to a new show, which will air in late 2014 or possibly 2015, for a psychological thriller from the creators of Damages. Are you hooked yet? Warming Glow sums up the show: The series will center on a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars come to light with the return of their black sheep older brother. Chandler will play the middle brother, a married man who takes care of the family, while Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises) will play the black sheep brother, and Linda Cardellini will play the sister.

Premiering this summer on Netlfix is a 12-episode animated, adult-oriented series called Bojack Horseman. This follows a "whiskey-drinking humanoid horse and former TV star BoJack (Will Arnett) who deals with his personal crises with human sidekick Todd (Aaron Paul) and feline agent and ex-lover Princess Caroline (Amy Sedaris)."

The last new show we want to talk about it Sense8. Though the name might seem like a typo, explaining that this is from the Wachowskis could make the it seem okay. Not much is known about this project, and that is exactly why we're excited for it!
