Before the 2013-14 NBA season began many were predicting the Brooklyn Nets to be there when it's all said and done. However, soon after the season started people were laughing off these suggestions and Jason Kidd's Nets team looked anything but a team with championship winning potential. Lately they have been in fantastic form and on Thursday 6th February they were up against last year's losing finalists, the San Antonio Spurs.

The Nets continued their surge by downing the Spurs with a 103-89 victory. With the superstar ability of Deron Williams and the experience of veterans Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, it's hard to rule out the Nets as championship contenders, and performances like this only add to their credentials. Rookie coach Jason Kidd was written off early in the season, but he kept his cool and it appears his playing experience has helped him to ease in to the playing to coaching transition.

The Nets have had a stunning 2014, but of course they will have to carry on in their current form and then they'll have to prove to the world that they can cope with playoff basketball. Of course, even if they do all of this successfully, they will still have to defeat the dominant Miami Heat at some stage or another. Can Brooklyn reach the heights required to top LeBron James and his Heat team, or will this be another step in the right direction towards creating a winning mentality in a franchise that's longed for a winner for so long?
