Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past contains a mind-boggling roster of mutants that has rarely, if ever, been attempted for a superhero film. One of those characters is Sunspot (Adam Canto), a mutant who can turn solar energy into strength.

Canto spoke to Fandango at a recent press event for his ABC comedy, Mixology, and asked him about his role as Sunspot aka Bobby da Costa in the film.

"It wasn't entirely a new world because I had followed the previous movies, but I did jump into the comic books world a bit to understand: Who is this guy? What's his life like?" Canto said.

The site also asked about his preparation for the role, and he replied, "I just find I work better that way when I understand what's in his mind, where he's coming from. I pretty much took most of the things I read and I brought them to the table. He's a fiery guy. There's a lot of passion with Sunspot, a lot of experiences that brought him to want to explode all the time, but he's a positive guy. There was just a lot of material. Very helpful!"

It's clear that Canto cares about the character and his part in the movie as he put in all that prep work, but the question remains how much of a role he and other characters like him will have in Days of Future Past. The X-Men movie franchise has had difficulty with juggling a large roster of characters, which left some of the lesser mutants underdeveloped as a result. Singer did an admirable job with X-Men and X2: X-Men United, but the latter films struggled more.

Either way, we'll see once the movie hits theaters on May 23. In the meantime, give us your thoughts. How will Days of Future Past handle its characters? Let us know in the comments below.
