Comedy great Sid Caeser dead at 91

MStars has learned that Comedy legend, Sid Caesar has passed away at the age of 91. According to L.A. Times, and his biographer and close friend, Eddy Friedfeld, the comedian died at his home, in Beverly Hills after suffering from a short illness Wednesday. There was no immediate release of cause of death.

The 1950s star was one of the rulers of television comedy, with his variety show, Your Show of Shows, and later called Caesar's Hour. Caesar was a two-time Emmy Award-winning performer, who many claim to be,"one of the great TV clowns," "one of television's most inventive performers" and "a genius at making people laugh."

Caesar, who was apart of the Catskills comedy circuit had three children, with the late Florence Levy, who died in 2010.

Your Show of Shows, was a 90 minute show, and the most memorable sketches, included the part when "Caesar, Coca, Reiner and Morris wordlessly played the figures on a large town clock in Bavaria that appear with mechanical precision on the hour, until the clock goes on the fritz" according to L.A. Times.

Caesar once said the key to his success with Your Show of Shows was, "unquestionably was the writing."

Caesar worked along some of the greatest writers, including Mel Brooks, Lucille Kallen, Tony Webster, Joe Stein, Neil and Danny Simon, and Carl Reiner (who was described as a "writer without portfolio").

RIP Sid Caesar, we will remember the ways you made a generation smile and laugh.
