Is a 'Firefly' revival still possible? Writer and producer Tim Minear answers

Firefly developed a devoted cult following back in 2002 despite the fact that the Joss Whedon series aired for a mere half season (there was also a feature film). At the moment, no revival or reboot is in the works, and any chance of such a happening would require numerous pieces to fall into place properly.

Star Nathan Fillion is under contract to ABC, one of Fox's rival networks (the show originally aired on Fox, which owns the rights to the show), for Castle, which is currently in its most-watched season. Whedon is also one of the busiest men in Hollywood at the moment with a little film called The Avengers: Age of Ultron on his plate. Plus, he told EW.com several months ago that he preferred to create new worlds, not revisit old ones.

But fans' thirst for more Firefly likely would not be quenched until they get more, so EW asked the show's former writer and producer Tim Minear, who is under contract with 20th Century Fox television and currently works on American Horror Story, if a revival were possible.

"I would never foreclose the possibility. The fact that it was even a feature film after it spectacularly failed on Fox was a miracle. And of course it lives on in other forms. In terms of getting the band back together to make a new adventure, who knows? I would love it. It would be great. But first everybody has their respective projects that limit them from crossing over into other things. It's just trying to coordinate everybody's obligations so they could somehow participate."
