There's certain sporting events that fans refuse to miss, and the NBA All-Star weekend is certainly up there with the best. The majority of the NBA's players get a much needed break, while the best of the best get rewarded with the invite to participate in the weekends events.

It started on February 14th, and it will finish after the pinnacle, the All-Star game itself, finishes Sunday evening. It kicked off with the rookies and second year match up, in which is always an exciting opportunity for fans to get acquainted with their favourite young stars. With fans soaking in every action packed moment and celebrities flocking to the city holding the All-Star weekend, is it a yearly sporting event that cannot be missed?

It's growing in popularity every season and it appears to be a vital part of the American sports calender. So far the fans have witnessed a great start, and there's still over 60% of the events left to come. With stars like Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and Kevin Durant yet to make an appearance, the fans haven't seen the best yet.

Although the weekend doesn't quite live up to the Super Bowl's hype, it does have it's own unique kind of hype. There's no event that is so interesting, yet so relaxing at the same time. Everything surrounding the Super Bowl is usually revolved around pressure, yet the NBA All-Star game has a sense of fun and enjoyment that can't be replaced. Who will win Sunday's encounter, the East or the West?
