2012's action reboot Dredd wasn't exactly a blockbuster hit, but the Peter Travis film gained a following and acclaim thanks to word of mouth. This led to a surprising success in DVD/Blu-Ray sales and plenty of talk about a sequel. Now the movie's star, Karl Urban, was recently quoted to say that Dredd 2 is close to becoming a reality.

While taking part in a Q&A session at the "Destination Star Trek" event in Frankfurt, Germany, Urban (who also portrays Bones in the Star Trek series), mentioned that "conversations are taking place" about the Dredd sequel. But what exactly does that mean?

Clearly "conversations" doesn't mean anything about contracts, scripts, or casting, so we shouldn't get our hopes up too high. But the thought that Dredd 2 is on Urban's mind, as well as the minds of others in the industry, is pretty promising.

Screen Rant reports:

The actor's offhand comments surrounding that update are more telling. For starters, Urban said what we've been saying since the film first released: that the studio completely fumbled its marketing and theatrical arrival. Urban went on to say that despite an underwhelming box office take that had seemed to kill any chance of a sequel, the DVD sales have continued to impress - and Lionsgate has taken notice.

Dredd definitely has a following, so a sequel would make plenty of people happy. Are you excited to hear about these "conversations taking place" about Dredd 2? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
