Robin Thicke, Paula Patton Divorce: Miley Cyrus 'Blurred Lines' VMA twerk fest to blame for separation?

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton's relationship was on the rocks before the 2013 VMA performance with Miley Cyrus.

According to Us Weekly, sources close to the couple say that the famous couple was having martial issues before Miley Cyrus twerk fest on Thicke during his "Blurred Lines" performance, but the media attention from that VMAs didn't help the couple.

"The Miley Cyrus fiasco was a big test of their relationship," the source adds, "He asked her to help him out as a friend and a wife, and defend him and the performance. He begged her to speak out for him and be there for him."

"She agreed to be the good wife after he begged and pleaded," the source revealed. "Then he asked her to stick with him through awards season, and she agreed. She attended the Grammys with him as a favor."

Although, the separation announcement shocked many fans, the insider claims that there were more problems than Cyrus, "Their marriage was unraveling a long time," the insider tells Us. "It is not a shock to Robin or Paula, and it is something they have discussed for a long time."

The alleged cheating scandal may have rubbed the relationship the wrong way. A few months back, Thicke was photographed getting very close to a beautiful woman at Club 79 in Paris.

Monday, the couple announced, "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."
