Appearing on Today this week, incoming "Weekend Update" co-host Colin Jost opened up about moving up from his head writer position to on-camera talent. He was joined by his co-host Cecily Strong, and the two got us more excited for the new era of Saturday Night Live.

"It was," Jost told Matt Lauer when asked if this was his dream job. "It was something I really -- I didn't know it was always possible -- and really had on my mind as like the thing I would want to do."

One the subject of his predecessor, Jost spoke about working with Seth on the show leading up to his departure and only had great things to say about the new Late Night host.

"He's been such a good mentor to me, both as a writer and going through this process, so it's been great," Jost said.

"It's such an intimidating legacy," Jost said of his new position on Saturday Night Live. "But also when you go to that hallway [outside the SNL studio], since you start, you see all these great photos of sketches through the years and you both appreciate it but you also have to very quickly just be like, 'OK I gotta try my own thing and do it' because otherwise you go crazy."

Meanwhile, Cecily Strong was asked if she had any advice for her new co-host, explaining how she helped with some vocal warm-ups, too.

"I guess I don't know what that is yet," she admitted. "I'm still learning."

Cecily and Colin also quizzed the Today anchors on "how much the real journalists knew about their fake-news counterparts," according to The Hollywood Reporter. You can check out a video of this fun segment (and another) right here:
