SPOILER ALERT: The following contains spoilers about Grey's Anatomy Season 10, Episode 13.  Continue reading at your own risk.

April chooses to abandon her wedding with Jackson after he proclaims his love for her.  Not only does April leave behind Matthew, Jackson leaves Steph behind.  This was predictable because April was always luke warm towards Matthew.  The guy had to pull a play from Glee and do a musical proposal.  Farm-raised April doesn't need cheese, she needs the wine that comes with an Avery-paid, steak dinner.

Meanwhile, everyone in a relationship is fighting, which is practically the entire cast of the show.

Meredith and Derek are fighting over his involvement with the president's research opportunity.  It's a great opportunity for Derek, however it puts a damper on Meredith's plans to make her career through her own research.  The couple's plans to focus on Meredith are going to be put on hold, unless Mer wants to pull a page out of the Ellis Grey playbook and ditch her kids for a ground-breaking career in medicine.

Arizona and Callie haven't been the same since the plane crash that killed Sloan, the father of Callie's daughter, and forced Callie to saw off Arizona's leg.  Also, Arizona cheating on Callie didn't help their situation either.  The couple wants to move on, but their dark past is holding them back.  They agree that if they want things to get better, they'll have to hit the restart button and obviously buy a new house.

Miranda and Ben are at odds after he quits his residency at another hospital.  The move back to Seattle for Ben sets him behind in his education, but he does so because he was severely concerned about Miranda's mental health and their life together.  Miranda eventually comes to understand that Ben isn't a flake, rather he is a man who is so in love with her that he is willing to put his own career on hold.  Which is a stark contrast with the Mer/Der situation.

Alex and Jo are at odds because they're both "dark and twisty," as Meredith would put it.  Alex is having difficulties watching his estranged father, Jimmy, deteriorate in front of his eyes and Jo doesn't know how to handle the situation either.  The two have a break at the April/Matthew wedding and Alex not-so-eloquently proposes to Jo.  Jo misunderstands his proposal and eventually rejects it, saying that the proposal is just Alex greiving over his father's inevitable death.  This accusation obviously puts Alex in a bad mood and he uses his go-to move of storming away when a situation gets tough.

FLASH-FORWAD 3 WEEKS.

Steph has been "in hiding" and no one believes that she's fine with being ditched at a April's wedding.  She doesn't know how to cope with being left at the alter, even though it wasn't her wedding anyway.  Instead of confronting the situation head-on, she tries to get Jackson to do some pro-bono work on a cat-man- a patient who surgically altered himself to look like a cat but now kind-of regrets it all.

Alex, though angsty, worries about his father and is inconsolable and in denial about being inconsolable.  Classic Alex.

Derek meets with the President's people to be approved to work on the research project.  The interviewers question his decision-making, especially about him marrying his student.  In the line of questioning, they bring up a "Matthew Thatcher," a man who Derek has been donating money to monthly.  Turns out, Derek had an altercation with Matthew during a hockey game which resulted in Matthew having a brain bleed that caused him severe brain damage.

Alex's father dies, but not before begging to see his other son and girlfriend.  Alex reassures Jimmy that the two are on their way and that they both know Jimmy loves them.  Jimmy dies with this reassurance, but Alex is again left feeling abandoned and discarded by his father.

Along this theme of confrontation, Leah confronts Jackson for his mistreatment of Steph.  Leah then goes to rally the other residents in filing complaints ranging from sexual harassment to hostile work environment against the senior doctors.

The doctors must vote on a new HR policy that has a zero-tolerance policy for relationships between staff members at the hospital- currently married staff are exempt.

Luckily, it turns out Jackson and April have secretly married and they, too, get to avoid the awkwardness that the remaining staff is about to face.  However, they will face a special kind of awkward when the couple has to tell Matthew and Steph that they married after fleeing from the wedding.
