Justin Masterson has been an important part of the Cleveland Indians' rotation for a long while now, but the time has come for the pair to sort their futures out. Masterson has been an important player for the Tribe and after struggling to entice Ubaldo Jiminez to stay for the long term, they will be desperate to keep their current ace.

It looked unlikely that the two camps would agree on any terms before the season began, but recently everything has picked up the pace rapidly, and it looks like the Indians, barring a foolish act, can keep their man. Coach Terry Francona has restored pride to the Tribe organization and it appears thar players are no longer desperate to leave , and want to commit to franchise. Jordan Bastian, of the Tribe, seems to think there's a good chance he will resign, as he tweeted saying "Nothing seems imminent, but I'm far more optimistic about the Tribe's chances to re-sign Masterson now than I was a few weeks ago."

It appears Masterson wants to avoid the free agency fight his services would bring in a years time, and he seems willing to take less money than he'd attract in order to remain an Indian. The ongoing discussions between the two camps appear to be closer than expected with Masterson seeking $40-$60 million for a contract of three to four years. This is well below what he could get next year , so the Indians should respect Masterson's modest request and secure his services now.

Many have performed below Masterson number wise, and they've been rewarded with far bigger contracts, so surely the Indians will accept Masterson's Spring Training generosity, right ?
