The 2014 Academy Awards ceremony had a special segment dedicated to movie heroes throughout the history of film, but there was one part of this bit that was, for some reason, cut. Apparently "Batkid," the 5-year-old boy named Miles Scott who became famous through his Make-a-Wish foundation spectacle in San Francisco, was supposed to show up and be deemed an official hero. This clearly did not happen and it's apparently because of Andrew Garfield.

Chris Evans, star of the Captain America films, introduced this segment, but it was originally supposed to go to Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield. After the prepared video segment, Miles Scott was going to come on stage and be deemed "Batkid" by Garfield. If you watched the telecast, you might have noticed that this clearly did not take place.

"The academy was going to make him an official superhero during the Oscar ceremony. Andrew Garfield was going to appoint him 'Batkid.' But, in the middle of the dress rehearsal, Garfield decided he didn't like his lines," an insider said. "Garfield refused to go by the script. He came up with his own lines. The producers felt that Garfield's [rewrites] were not appropriate. Garfield had a tantrum. He stormed off. Miles and his family, who were at the rehearsal, were devastated."

The "Batkid" part of the segment was cut and Garfield did not attend the ceremony. Miles was treated to a trip to Disneyland by the Academy.

What's strange is that, even if this Garfield part of the story is true, why cut the whole bit with Miles? Couldn't Evans just do this?
