Saturday Night Live alum Jason Sudeikis is set to lead a new film franchise, starting with the recently announced movie Fletch Won. Based on the popular comedy films that originally starred another Saturday Night Live star, Chevy Chase, this new rebooted, reimagined series of movies based on investigatory reporter I.M Fletcher of the Gregory McDonald mystery novels.

Warner Bros picked up the rights to this film franchise in 2011, but the poject has gone through many changes over the years. Sudeikis' casting is the first major announcement for the project, with a director being picked soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

Fletch Won is an origin story, described as a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with McDonald's novels than the Chase movies ... Sudeikis spent 10 years on Saturday Night Live while also appearing in such comedies as Horrible Bosses and Hall Pass. His stock rose considerably last year (the same year he ended his run on SNL) after he starred in We're the Millers, the drug road comedy from Warners' arm New Line that grossed $270 million. The comedian has so far stuck to playing supporting roles in his movies, and Fletch will provide him the chance to carry a movie based on his charm and smarm.
