Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and preliminary reports indicate that this superhero sequel should bring in some major cash for Marvel Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter states pre-release tracking for Captain America 2 shows the sequel should earn more than $80 million in its opening weekend on April 4, and some think it could hit $85 million as Thor: The Dark World did in November. As a point of comparison, Captain America: The First Avenger hit $65 million in 2011, so this increase could be due to the massive success of The Avengers.

Furthermore, rumors indicate that directors Anthony and Joe Russo could return for Captain America 3, a sign that Marvel is pleased with their work on this second film.

In related news, The Hollywood Reporter also reports that Marvel has decided to pull out the big guns and pit Captain America 3 head-to-head with DC and Warner Bros.' Batman vs. Superman in a little more than two years.

Reports had swirled earlier in the week that Warner Bros. would push the release date of Zack Snyder's untitled Man of Steel sequel, currently known as Batman vs. Superman, to April 29, 2016 from its May 6, 2016 release date because of Marvel's then-unknown Phase Three movie that it scheduled for release on that first May weekend.

"Warners may have been waiting to see what the Marvel title was before considering a date change for Batman-Superman, if the studio indeed blinks," The Hollywood Reporter notes.
