The Avengers: Age of Ultron seems as though it will be packed to capacity with superheroes and villains. Many fans have been so focused on the roster that the plot has been somewhat overlooked. But Scarlett Johansson revealed in a new interview that things could get quite dark in Joss Whedon's sequel.

The actress told IGN that Black Widow's past will come up again in Age of Ultron when asked what fans can expect from her character's arc in the sequel. Moreover, she hinted that each of the superheroes' histories could come home to roost:

"In Avengers 2 we go back...we definitely learn more about Widow's back-story, and get to find out how she became the person you see," she said. "All of these characters have deep, dark pasts, and I think that the past catches up to some of us a little bit."

The Avengers briefly touched on Black Widow's past, which Loki used against her.

In related news, Collider asked Johansson for her reaction when she read the script for the movie, and she responded with a pile of praise for Whedon:

"I was just amazed-Joss is something else, he really is. He locks himself away for God knows how long; I think he has the dark circles to prove it. [He] just came out with something totally solid. I was really impressed by his ability to make this ever-expanding Marvel universe feel very close-knit and cerebral and progressive. I mean this movie feels like the continuation of The Avengers, it doesn't feel like a tag-on or the rehashed version or just 'let's throw a bunch of new characters in there and keep the thing alive.' It really feels like the next step, and all of our characters, our relationships with one another continue to progress, become more intertwined, more complicated, more meshed. The film has a lot of great comic book moments that the fans are gonna love, but it's also got a lot of really great dramatic moments that audience members, I think, will really relate to."
