It's Richard's birthday and the hospital wants to reward him with an internally conjoined twin surgery.  An odd expression of love, but hey it's Grey's Anatomy.

Shepherd and Callie are arguing over whose mapping neurons are whose and it's come to lawyers having to be brought it.  They have brought even brought Owen into negotiations, but we all know he's not the best at sorting things out (cough, cough Christina).  Callie refuses to let Derek take the brain mapping neurons.  She thinks Derek is being self centered and only wants to further his own career, which probably can be seconded by Meredith but who's counting?

Derek pulls the "My name is on the material, my name is on the patents," card and demands Callie give in.

In another conference room somewhere in the hospital, April and Jackson must finally face his mother, the overbearing and stern Catherine Avery.  "I don't know what you're after, dear."  she says to April.  Catherine assume that the farm-raised, red haired April is after the Avery fortune.  The whole running away from the alter thing has Catherine questioning April's motivations.  "I have no idea what she's capable of," she says.  She's demanding April sign a prenuptial agreement in order for the marriage to continue without being a threat to the Avery fortune and name.

April is willing to sign the prenuptial agreement, but Jackson wants to protest because he has some obvious "Mommy Issues."

Jo and Alex have to face signing their own document, the declaration of love papers to get the Human Resources love patrol off their back.  Jo refuses to because she thinks it will ruin their relationship.  She believes marriage licenses kill romance and guarantee nothing in a commitment, so why would she sign a occupation required declaration of love?  Will that document kill their On-Call room sessions?  Who knows?!

Christina decides that she will push Owen away by finding him another woman to date.  It's not like he didn't have one already who wanted to move in with him and have his children...  We can't forget goodhearted Emma!  She deserved better than Owen backsliding into Christina's web.

Everyone knows that Owen wants Christina expect for Christina.

Apparently Jackson's mother wanted to spend her day in a conference room and when April decides she is ready to get the prenuptial documents, Catherine pushes the obligations that an Avery name entails- the spot on the board, the dedication to medicine, the duty to be involved in the advancement of medicine.  April obviously becomes overwhelmed with all the questions that entail by marrying into the Avery throne and what her future children are going to inherit just by being an Avery.

Back in another conference room, Derek calls Lloyd, the presidential contact person, to tell Lloyd that Callie and him are standing together.  Eventually Lloyd agrees that the sensors will be shared.  I say eventually because it took less than a minute after Derek threatened away to walk away from the project altogether.  "We will have to figure out a way to share," says Lloyd.

After a surprise party for Richard, the whole hospital is at the bar together.  Christina and Owen are found at the bar together.  He pushes that they leave together, as he isn't interested in the online women she's found him.

On the other side of the bar, Alex proposes, essentially, to Jo again  Alex says that the papers won't mean anything and that it's just a formality that they need to do in order to continue seeing each other without any complications.  They sign and move on.

Unfortunately, it's not all a lover's paradise at the bar for Richard's birthday.  April tells Jackson she would want her children to be Christian and that she wants them to be comfortable around livestock, essentially raised on a farm.  However, Jackson pictures them in boarding school.  I guess that future is in the manure... right?
