Gotye, the artist behind 'Somebody That I Used To Know' was reported to have passed away by committing suicide. The artist was forced then to confirm that the news is not true which circulated over Twitter.

The news that were allegedly reported by CNN included details that the singer shot himself and made it straight to the CNN iReport. The exact news reported was as follows:

"At 4:32 AM EST, it was reported that Gotye had shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun. He was pronounced dead at 4.45AM, and the investigation concluded that the cause of death was suicide.''

Gotye himself went to Twitter to proclaim that the spreading news of his alleged death is not true that his exact response went like: "I'm not dead. #Pinkalbumtitles."

Even Gotye's band mate even added to the news by joking over Twitter that Gotye 'suffered cardiac arrest while flying a unicorn over a double rainbow.'

On CNN's Defence

CNN was consistent too in denying the allegations that the news came from them. "The source was actually one fraudulent member of over the one million members of CNN's social network for news - CNN iReport...," a CNN spokesperson wrote. The representative added that their assigned moderators have already pulled the false story down several minutes after posting.

Due to the power of social media, it did not take long before the false news spread fast like wild fire everywhere. The CNN representative also emphasized that the false report was not published in any of their editorial platforms and was not broadcasted in any channel.
