Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer was virtually unbeatable last season, and the Tigers were hoping to tie him down to a long, albeit expensive contract. He is contracted for this season, but it looks increasingly likely that he will test free agency after this season. He is currently on a $15.525 million contract for this year, but with Scott Boras being his agent, the Tigers knew it would never be an easy negotiation process.

Scherzer, however, insists nothings changed, and he wants to remain a Tiger. He explained "I'm here to win. I'm here to try to get a ring for Mr. I," He continued "If I had a contract, it's not going to make me pitch better; not having a contract is not going to make me pitch worse."

After winning 21 games last season, it's easy to see why Max might wait untill free agency, as he's likely to get record-breaking offers. One can wonder if he's looking to match the contract of teammate Justin Verlander, who received a seven-year, $180 million contract. With Max, 29, looking at the last major contract of his career, he's within his rights to take his time and maximize his earnings.

Is manager Brad Ausmus concerned? Apparently not, as he recently said "I am not the least concerned about Max Scherzer's frame of mind," It seems they're on similar wavelengths as Max said "It just didn't get done now," and he finished saying "We felt it would be best to revisit this after the season. I know we have a great thing here so I'm not saying the grass is greener on the other side."

Will Max remain a Detroit Tiger, or will he test the aforementioned, and possibly greener grass?
