Robin Thicke and Paula Patton update: singer says ex and I are 'doing well'

MStars has been keeping up updated with the latest news on your favorite couple, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton after they announced their decision to separate back in February.

The "Blurred Lines" singer, 37 is opening up sharing emotional details to why he decided to share his feelings while on tour.

"My music is very honest about what I'm going through and my songs are about my life," he said in an interview with People at the grand opening party of Express Times Square in New York City, on Tuesday.  "And my relationship with her was 21 years of my life, so I just thought it was important to me to let people know how much she means to me."

Thicke claims that the mother of his son, Paula Patton, 38 was moved by the public messages the singer would tell his fans while on tour.

"She loved it," Thicke said. "She thought it was the sweetest thing and very romantic, and I've always been a romantic guy that way."

When asked if there is any chance of the couple reconciling he says that they are the proud parents of their 3-year-old son, Julian and that they are in a great place.

"We're both doing well. We're both very happy right now - much happier," the singer said. "Everything about this moment in my life - this amazing year I just had and what I'm going through personally - has actually ignited some of the best writing I've done in a long time."

"Whatever everybody's wondering about, they're going to hear it all in the album," he continued.

Thicke also spoke about his future plans for the rest of 2014, saying, "Just to be a great father and hopefully write some great music, put on some great shows and be a great friend to Paula."

The "Lost Without You" singer's next stop on his tour is in Indio, Calif., on March 28.
