'Dark Knight' director Christopher Nolan teases new movie 'Interstellar' and talks star Matthew McConaughey

While appearing at CinemaCon earlier this week, critically acclaimed director Christopher Nolan spoke about his upcoming movie Interstellar. There are some great quotes from his speech that explain a little more about this highly anticipated movie and also the film's star, Matthew McConaughey.

"I needed someone who is very much an everyman, someone the audience could experience the story with," Nolan said of the recent Academy Award winner, McConaughey. "He's just a phenomenal, charismatic presence in the movie. His performance is shaping up to be extraordinary."

Known for the tone of his films like Dark Knight, The Prestige and other great projects, Nolan took some time to explain what he was going for in terms of tone with Interstellar.

"I grew up in an era that was a golden age of the blockbuster when something we might call a family film could have universal appeal," he said. "That's something I want to see again. In terms of the tone of the film, it looks where we are as a people and has a universality about human experience."

Another aspect of Nolan's work that he's known for is working with film. For Interstellar, he shot on film and in IMAX, but he's still an advocate for the more traditional movie practice.

"Film is the best way to capture an image and project that image," Nolan said. "It just is, hands down. That's based on my assessment of what I'm seeing as a filmmaker ... As far as innovation and experimentation, I'm in favor any any technological innovation but it will always have to exceed what came before. None of the new technologies have done that."
