A few months ago, the popular English folk rock band Mumford & Sons went on an "extended hiatus" so members could pursue other endeavors. But in a recent interview with Vulture, banjo player Winston Marshall revealed that things were over for good - the Sons were breaking up. Fans were devastated - but not to worry, apparently Marshall was "just joking!"

Marshall recently spoke with Vulture at the Mistaken for Strangers after-party. Here's the "break up" quote that quickly went viral on the web:

"I wish I had something to say about Mumford & Sons. It was a good time... it's over."

When asked if he was serious, Marshall continues,  "Yeah. We had a good time, though, you know. It was good."

But what about a reunion tour?

"Well, I dunno, f*cking, that would be awesome. But, you know, it is what it is, I guess."

Pretty shocking statements. But apparently they're fake!

E! News recently spoke with a Mumford & Sons rep who stated - "I can confirm that he was joking, as he was about catering the party. The band has not broken up."

Very funny, Marshall!

As E! News points out, the Grammy Award-winning band (fronted by Marcus Mumford) was forced to cancel a slew of live performances after bassist Ted Dwane underwent emergency surgery for a brain blood clot. The band then went on hiatus in September 2013 - th rockers told Rolling Stone that there would be "no Mumford & Sons activities for the forseeable future."

But apparently that doesn't mean their done for good. But who knows, maybe Marshall really does want the band to break up...

Stay tuned as more details develop.
