Reports confirm that "Love & Hip Hop" star Ray "Benzino" Scott was shot en route to his mother's funeral on Saturday afternoon (March 29). The popular rapper remains in stable condition at South Shore Hospital in Massachusetts.

According to TMZ, the VH1 reality star was taking part in his mother's funeral procession when the shooting occured. An argument erupted between family members, and Benzino was shot during the confrontation. The Source magazine's former owner was quickly rushed to the hospital.

Benzino's nephew Gai Scott was later arrested for the shooting. According to WCVB ... the district attorney confirms that "there has been growing family tension" between the two. Thankfully, no one else was injured during the violent altercation. The rapper suffered wounds in his arm and right shoulder, draining him of "a pint of blood." The nephew is now charged with with assault with intent to murder.

Benzino (48) recently spoke with The Herald from his hospital bed, explaining, "In those situations you can't be afraid, you have to be smart."

He paid his final respects to 79-year-old Mary A. "Kinky" Scott privately on Friday (March 28) at a Quincy funeral home. He planned on going back to Georgia and skipping-out on the funeral Saturday, knowing there would be problems.

"I knew there was going to be problems and tension," he said. "It just gave me a bad taste. I did not want to go to the funeral. I wanted to go back home."

On his drive back to Atlanta in a rented red Dodge SUV on Route 3, Benzino came upon a funeral procession, and thinking it might be his mother's, decided to take a look. That's when "the perpetrator" attacked.

"As I got to the beginning of the procession where the hearse was, the perpetrator rolled down a car window and started shooting and shooting," he reveals. Scott jumped out of the car and tried getting to the hearse for cover, but "they wouldn't let me in. I had blood all over me."

An eyewitness helped Benzino get to the Duxbury police, where he was aided by firefighters. "The Duxbury Fire Department are really, really cool guys," he said.

Benzino later updated his fans through this Instagram post:
