Fans are still discussing the controversial How I Met Your Mother series finale that aired Monday night. The special one-hour installment featured marriages, divorces, death and new life and certainly split fans into "loved it" and "hated it" sides.

Early Tuesday morning, co-creator Craig Thomas posted a series of tweets to address the finale and thank the fans:

"Thank you all. I mean it: Every possible reaction to the last 44 minutes...thank you all...The fact that we have been a TV sitcom that has received this much passion from fans, for 9 years (not just tonight) - thank you. We wrote a comedy with dramatic elements till the very end. Thanks for taking the ride with us. We did a finale about life's twists and turns and that is not always what happens...but THANKS! Seriously - no matter what you thought of tonight, THANK YOU...you were with us. We love you."

How I Met Your Mother also went out on a high note in the ratings department with its most-watched episode ever at 12.9 million viewers. The show also scored a series high in the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.3 rating.

Finally, star Josh Radnor told EW.com that HIMYM is over, but it's not exactly over...

"I know a nagging question from the show might be released as a DVD extra and I did shoot it," he said. "But I feel I might not have approval to say what it is, so I'm just going to plead the Fifth."

EW confirmed the scene would in fact be on the DVD.
