Ellen DeGeneres should change her name to Ellen DeGenerous.

Tuesday on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGenerous introduced the audience to Derrick Wilson.  Wilson, who was once homeless himself, now owns a restaurant that he closes on Mondays to feed the homeless.  The owner of Chef D's Rock Power Pizza in Des Moines, IA was moved to tears when Ellen surprised him with a check for $10,000.

After the shock, Wilson said, "I didn't know where the money was going to come from....This is going to help me keep these doors open."

Ellen first communicated Wilson's inspirational story through her "Ellen's Good News" blog.

Before his restaurant, Wilson made some bad decisions that ended with him being homeless.  "It put me in a position where I needed help from others, but the doors were always closed, I heard a lot of 'no's," he said in the post. "I made a promise that if I ever got in a position where I could help somebody, I would give something back."

"To see the smile on the people's face," he recalled, "And to take their mind off whatever they may be going through for 30-40 minutes, that's why I dedicated this day."

After the show, his words for Ellen were just as sincere.  He said, "Ellen, I love you.  I love everything you do.  You are so genuine and real and I'm just grateful for people like you."
