Imagine if the bestselling pop stars and famous celebrities were literally manufactured products, grown in a lab by the world's wealthiest geniuses? And what would happen if one of those lab rats somehow managed to escape? Dark Horse Comics presents Pop, the new four-issue miniseries from writer Curt Pires (Theremin) and artist Jason Copland (Kill All Monsters).

Plot Synopsis:

The story revolves around Elle, a pop singer literally grown in a lab for maximum marketability, and Coop, a record store junkie thrown into Elle's crazy world. This music-inspired project takes an inside look at the sinister side of musicians.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Pires explains the themes behind his writing, "Pop is a comic about America. It's a comic about the bloated corpse of mass culture, and the men, the women, the animals, who feed slices of it to the masses, who monetize it."

Pires discusses how the satirical message of the narrative relates to Elle, "The story is very much driven by Elle's desire to find herself, to transcend her programming and become whatever she wants to be. In many ways, the book is this concept of 'transcending programming,' applied to a massive violent scale. Everyone is busy telling everyone else what to be, and there's a very visceral violent struggle involved with overcoming that and discovering what you really are. That is Pop."

Be sure to be in stores on August 27th when Pop #1 hits shelves. A clever satire about the music industry and finding your own identity, Pop definitely takes a different look at America's favorite singing sensations.
