We might not be getting Resident Evil 5 this year or any time soon, but the creators of the popular video game franchise are releasing a brand new title that could suffice as a replacement. Check out the latest gameplay trailer for The Evil Within, which comes out on August 26, 2014 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Here is the official synopsis of this new title from Bethesda:

Detective Sebastien Castellanos and his partners are called in to investigate a gruesome mass murder. After witnessing a mysterious force slaughter his fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When the video opens, he finds his world has been turned upside down. Fighting for survival in a world where hideous creatures wander among the dead, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel who or what is behind this unimaginable evil.

In this new trailer, which debuted at PAX East earlier this week, gamers get a great look at brand new in-game footage of The Evil Within and the terrifying monstrosities that they'll be facing later this year.

Many are saying that the similarities between this new game and Resident Evil are too apparent, but is that a bad thing? We're still waiting on a fifth installment of the RE franchise, so why not just accept The Evil Within as something to hold us over?
